Envigas delivers thermochemical processes to turn organic residuals into value. Any organic material can be used to produce biochar and energy using our processes. Wood, bark or sawdust from the forests, stalks, husks or straw from the agro-sector or even slurrys such as manure or waste water sludge can be turned into value using our processes.
Biochar used as soil improvement acts as a carbon sink by sequestering carbon and improves fertility, reduces nitrous oxide and methane emissions and the has ability to hold moisture. By building small scale and distributed systems our processes can reduce the overall transport emissions, provide local heat or cooling and produce power locally. Biochar has the potential to change “slash and burn” to “slash and char” agriculture.
Residuals turned into value
Biochar, bio-oil and syngas are the commodities produced during pyrolysis of organic residuals. The ratio between these varies with feed stock. There are a number of opportunities to use the commodities to improve the environment and the business case (profitability) of the installation.
Biochar is the fixed carbon part of the feed stock mixed with ash. It can be used as soil enhancement, turned into activated carbon or used as a substitute for fossil coal. By using it as soil enhancement it sequester carbon, improves soil quality and reduce other harmful emissions. Biochar can represent a high value depending on feed stock.
Bio-oil is really the tarry liquid produced by the process. It can be further refined to become a liquid fuel or combusted to assist in drying the feed stock and supporting the process. The surplus can be converted into cooling for the local community or industry.
The syngas produced has a very high heating value and is ideal to power a genset producing power for the process and the local community.
